The Discovery of a Giant Debris Arc in the Coma Cluster
نویسنده
چکیده
We present the discovery a giant low surface-brightness arc, of length ∼ 80 kpc in the Coma Cluster. The arc consists of a diffuse luminous matrix with surface-brightness μB < 26.5 mag arcsec and a number of embedded condensations. It is not associated with any giant galaxy in Coma in particular; neither does it have the properties of a gravitational arc. We argue that a fast interaction between the nearby barred S0 galaxy IC 4026 and either IC 4041 or RB 110 is the most natural explanation for the origin of the arc.

Galaxy Disruption as the Origin of Intracluster Light in the Coma Cluster
Although the existence of a faint background of starlight in the core of the Coma cluster has been well established, its origin is uncertain. This vast sea of stars could have formed outside the galaxies, using gas left over from the time of the cluster’s birth. Alternatively, it might be the accumulated debris generated by interactions between the galaxies over the lifetime of the cluster. Her...

The ability to discover services in Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a major prerequisite. Cluster basedcross layer intelligent service discovery for MANET (CBISD) is cluster based architecture, caching ofsemantic details of services and intelligent forwarding using network layer mechanisms. The cluster basedarchitecture using semantic knowledge provides scalability and accuracy. Also, the mini...

We present the results of a search for gravitationally-lensed giant arcs conducted on a sample of 825 SDSS galaxy clusters. Both a visual inspection of the images and an automated search were performed and no arcs were found. This result is used to set an upper limit on the arc probability per cluster. We present selection functions for our survey, in the form of arc detection efficiency curves...

We have obtained new CCD photometry for a sample of ≃ 800 early-type galaxies (dwarf and giant ellipticals) in the central 700 arcmin of the Coma cluster, complete in color and in magnitude to R = 22.5 mag (MR ≃ −12 mag for H0 = 86 km/sec/Mpc). The composite luminosity function for all galaxies in the cluster core (excluding NGC 4874 and NGC 4889) is modeled as the sum of a Gaussian distributio...
